It seems crazy for me to be talking about rain right now. There is a foot of snow in my front yard and the only thing that is even remotely like rain is the icicles dripping off my roof. Nonetheless, let’s talk a little about rain. Not the kind that ruins a picnic, but the kind that can touch a life. You know, the kind of rain that can save a family or change a nation.
In the Old Testament, God has a message for the people of Israel. They were going to go through difficult times, but God wanted them to know that there was hope on the backside of their troubles. The Bible records His promise. It says, “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants” (Isaiah 44:3, ESV). A chapter later, the theme of rain continues. There it says, “Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the Lord have created it” (Isaiah 45:8, ESV).
How awesome would it be for God to pour Himself out in our lives and on our land? What kind of radical changes would a deluge from God bring in the hearts of every man and woman? We all need a fresh touch from God. Our homes need it. Our schools need it. Our nation needs it. Our churches need it. I need it. Let’s cry out to God for an awakening in our lives. Let’s open our hearts to Him with a sense of renewed abandon. Let’s give Him all the room He needs to change us from the inside out. People are thirsty and the land is parched. Let it rain!
